UPDATED: A Yankee Group report published today predicts imminent doom for anti-spyware makers with the release of Windows Vista.
So in order for the predictions in his report that anti-spyware vendors will suffer under the freely available Windows Defender in Vista, first thing that has to happen is Vista must be a hit, and he doesn't think it will be.
Even if we take out, Vista's popularity out of the mix,
do you really think this "Windows Defender" will be up to the standards of third party software.
Like Windows XP Firewall to third party software, its just a load of crap.
But something is always better then nothing.
I apologize if this subject has already been posted.

Will we see antiMS antitrust lawsuits again?
I would fail to see how not after the success of netscapes legal action against MS.
-
I wouldn't bother with anti-trust on anti-spyware software. I mean, the only reason it exists is because Windows sucks. They aren't entitled to exist.

But Windows does suck, so they're entitled to exist ;)

Software that fixes suckiness is never entitled to exist. Why? Because their existence relies on something that shouldn't be what it is. At their rate, they are against fixing Windows because they need suckiness to sell their product. And that, my friend, is not viable business, on the part of either Microsoft or .

The Yankee Group, what a joke...
Anyway, have all of you noticed how much people are talking about how wonderful this operating system is that's supposed to be nearly a year away from release. It's supposed to be soooo wonderful and soooo secure and end all viruses and spyware and everything, even though it comes from a company that has ALWAYS released software that is buggy, sucks, historically a security nightmare, and is generally written to serve their interests rather than their customers?

I don't know about spyware not being entitled to exist.
Is IE7 gonna allow users to install personal extentions ?
Are window users still gonna click on MySearch installers ?
User accounts only keep the idiocy from spreading to other users and the system. The start menu could still be user specific so whats to stop an application acting as a hook for IE on the menu or wateva.
IMHO Linux is free from virii and spyware because the people using it are more intelligent and techies revere it.

I just wish someone would dig up one of those old "Whistler is the new, virus-free Windows solution" ads, then the first thousand or so advisories from multiple anti-virus corporations. You know, the ones that touted that XP was more resilient against hacking attacks than UNIX.

My math teacher (nickname "the barn owl") once had a Freudian slip ... she said:
I'd really like some sex. :) (I'm not sure what she intended to say, but I'm sure she wasn't lying)
