AuMatar writes "Symantec filed a lawsuit (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003003687_websymantec18.html) [CC] (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com.nyud.net:8090/html/businesstechnology/2003003687_websymantec18.html) against Microsoft over patents on the volume management technology in Vista. They're seeking an injunction to stop Vista from being sold until the suit is completed. Given the recent Supreme Court ruling (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/16/135257&tid=155) it should be interesting to see if the injunction is granted, since Symantec does produce software which uses the patent. If it is granted, expect MS to settle to prevent another Vista delay."

I hope Vista gets delayed even more :).

Coolness ... they should fight to the death ... maybe both will die and the world would be a better place :D

Well they wont. Maybe Symantec will die but not MS. Then again, they could be in on it together so that MS has an excuse to delay ol' Bloaty. In which case Symantec would just end up getting stabbed in the back, but that's not the point. Corporate wars, oh what fun. No it's not.

lol stupid patents

Symantec filed a lawsuit in Seattle today alleging Microsoft committed a host of business misdeeds, including misappropriating trade secrets and violating a contract that covered code
Not like that's never happened before.
MS and Symantec in cahoots for a plausible excuse for yet another delay of Windows XP-II?
Symantec running scared because MS has finally gotten its act together and Vista won't be needing all Symantec's accessories to make it functional?
Slackware user here: I really don't care. :p

As long as one of them dies, I'll be happy. ;)

Symantec does deserve to die but given the choice I'd rather it be Microsoft.

Damn straight. May they both die in a fire.

Symantec's evil is explicitly based on Microsoft's evil. Meaning that if Microsoft didn't suck so much, Symantec wouldn't have any excuse to suck so much. Not that they would suddenly be saintly if Microsoft died, but their business model would definitely change. They're like somebody who has found the one ring - they weren't always evil. I have found SARC to be a valuable resource in the past - they do a good job cataloging virii and worms and trojans and hoaxes. But with the one ring of Microsoft, even good is turned to evil.

More to delay Vista, when will it come out 2012 maybe? Microsoft is never on time when it comes to releases.
Of course, by then, :tux:Linux:tux: and :macos:Mac os:macos: will probably have mind reading.

Hopefully, you mean the good kind of mind reading, where the computer interacts with you telepathically to produce creative works of extraordinary genius, and not the bad kind of mind reading, where the computer looks into your brain and steals your credit card number to pay for antivirus software updates.

Well of course, Windows will steal your credit card number for ubdates and such, but with the alternatives, they would all use it for typing without a keyboard etc.
