Title: Boot Menu

I just recently installed Win98 on my XP machine in order to run some older progs that aren't compaitable with XP. After installation, there is now no boot menu to choose my O.S. and it automatically boots into Win98. I've tried configuring the boot.ini and I've read articles on MS's online help database thing, but their articles are too complicated and not really user-friendly. I can't uninstall Win98 either as it's not in the Add/remove programs list. So does anyone know how either I can remove Win98 OR to get a boot menu where I can choose the O.S.

Just remove it in MS-DOS mode... how hard can it be?

You have to install 9x first and NT/2000/XP after

well, just re-install XP, it won't erase your files, it will just re-install the os, and then you will have a boot menu w/98 and xp on it.

Yes, that was my next problem. XP was the core OS on my laptop, and so it didn't come with the XP CD. So either way, I don't think it's possible now.

ooooh yes, i just got a new Omnibook, same problem :-(.  No XP cd really makes it difficult to rescue your system.

Well, not to push my favorite OS or anything, but if you installed linux, that bootloader could boot XP as well.  Or you could, in 98, download  and install another bootloader, such as bootmagic.  That would put another 'boot menu' on your computer.

Thanks again. I've now restored the laptop back to factory settings, and will remember BootMagic if I need to install Win98 again. Thanks for your help.

Installing win98 then winXP then install Linux, it comes with an amazing bootloader that is very easy to set-up and simple to use.
