Yup, and lately seagate has been offering enterprise editions of their high capacity drive. $40-50 more for a supposedly much more reliable drive.

I wonder how they do that. Probably run read/write/erase drills on it until it gets to the bottom of the bathtub curve. If so, that means it will have a statistically shorter lifespan than a normal drive.

Well for years seagate and western digital and many other makes have had Enterprise and Consumer drives. Lately seagate has been dropping the prices on the enterprise drives and releasing them for consumer purchase.

Might be that it is getting cheaper to produce them.
