Title: bootdisk question for Win2k

i have recently just got a bootdisk from

and it works, but when it gets to the actual changing password part it asks for which account and i type admin.  it then asks what to set the pw to and i type one.  it then displays whole bunch of letters and then asks for another password to change.  i then restart the computer to test out the new computer.  the new password didnt work.  any 1 have any suggestions cuz i really dont understand what the website is trying to tell you how to use the disk.

Do you really want to change the password for "admin" or do you want to change it for "Administrator"?

I just booted with that floppy and changed the Administrator password on my Win2kPro partition (on NTFS) without a problem. Hmmmm.

well do i only need 1 floppy with the .bin file on it or do i need all the scsi drivers on another floppy also?

please explain in detail as best as possible

Also, just to let you know this is Win2k Pro
there is also a manager account also.  I think that account has like SUPREME POWER OVER ALL.

I think what VoidMain was getting at was that you had said you were trying to change the password for the user ID "admin" whereas the default 'root' account for Windows NT/2000 is called "Administrator", so this could be your problem.

However... most _competent_ (non-MCSE?) network administrators will have changed their domain's administrator account to another name which looks like any other normal account in the domain, and may also have created a dummy "Administrator" account with only guest priveliges - so if you're trying to change the password on a system that was previously run by someone else, take that into account.

You are trying to change the admin password on a system to which you have the proper right to do so, aren't you?  (http://smile.gif)

on google I want you to search for the program called "changentpassword"
or some other spelling.

created a boot disk with this and you can change ANY password in W2k...fat32 or ntfs.

ntchange password changes the SAM file on the local disk not over the network.  Be carefull, if you screw up the SAM ... well just dont do it.

The images for the 4 standard w2k boot disks are located on the win2k install cd in the directory "BOOTDISK".
