Its been running pretty good for the last three months or so, its relatively fast, just as stable as my Mandrake 8.1 box. I have not had any major hardware incompatibilities.
Its got its quirks, like the annoying passport thingy. And the default interface is pretty gay. I changed it to suit me though. Check out the screen shot. I like pretty GUIS (http://smile.gif)

Yeah, XP is great. Here is a copy of my favorite wallpaper: http://www.digital-ink.co.uk/teletubbiesXP.jpg (http://www.digital-ink.co.uk/teletubbiesXP.jpg)
And you sure do have a pile of spyware running in that task bar of yours...

Spyware? In where the System Tray or the Quicklaunch?
Instead of putting all my shortcuts on the desktop, where it messes up my wallpapers, I put them in the Quick Launch area. I also added the two menus you can see in the lower right, Quick Office and Quick Games, I put all my Office aps and my Games in those menus.
Nothing in the Quicklaunch is actually running, they are just shortcuts.
BTW, nice wallpaper, lol
-
I was joking. I wouldn't use XP if M$ gave it away for free.
-
Well thats a nice GUI, thats for sure.
But cant you do all that in X...I think you can.
The point is not that XP is this or that...the point is Micro$haft is, well evil.
Linux is pure and good and, well, not ruled by Darth Vader and his pal Darth.
But seriously...you can do even more pretty GUI stuff in Linux...WAY MORE!
-
I still think the XP GUI looks gay (http://tongue.gif)

The SSSCA will make open source software illegal, if its passed.

Uh huh, whatever. The SSSCA wont make open software illegal. It'll simply make the use of devices or software that refuse to comply to the standards illegal. And let's not forget the important word IF. You know, for a country of 'democracy', it seems as though the US government sure does want to be able to control more and more facets of people's everyday lives. Shit, people in communist countries have more freedom.
Should I just put this down to being another American double standard????

The Comunists are more overt and push people around. The US works by "manufacturing consent" the media and government create the illusion that people have a choice but infact they are at the mercy of those elite few who controlll what they hear and watch.
It's not some big conspiracy or anything, it's just the inevitable result of big money government and the corpratization of the media. This is why the internet is such a threat and constantly trying to be regulated.
Im not throwing mud at the US I love this country. I just think that THE PEOPLE are not doing enugh to make sure they are the ones running it. Hell, when is the last time you voted? Last election perhapse.... ok.... then when is the last time you voted for a local judge or congressman?
If the majority voted for everyone starting from the most lowly of government offices like we are supposed to, I don't think stupid bills, corporate media, and mega-monopolies would be a problem at all (that is, unless the country turns out to actually like that sort of thing *shudder*)
-
Well that act must make all the americans proud of their democracy........way to go guys.

I don't like Luna either, but I do like WinXP's GUI. It is fully customizeable to suite your needs if you know how to mod it. I like a more professional looking VS myself. I also like the Quick Launch menu because it gives you the ability to remove all of the desktop clutter and still have fast, easy access to your shortcuts.

Hell, I even have my recycle bin put away to where I can't see it on my desktop.
And like the man who started this topic said..it is a very stable OS(If you know how to properly install and configure stuff like your drivers). Best of all, it will run about any Win32 app/game out there.
Windows XP is so customizable that you can even make it look like MacOSX(why a person would want to do this I don't know)...see.

(That is Windows XP..not OSX)
Linux on the other hand...is kinda plain looking if you ask me.

That wallpaper is your favorite wallpaper? Why is that...are you a TeleTubbies fan or do you just like looking at Bill's face? LoL(that wallpaper is ghey)

Ya, back under OS 9, I have a Theme that looks like Windows 98+
No matter how you slice it, your OS is just playing pretend.
-
I'm using windows 98+XP. I use 98 for games because almost none of my games works in XP!
-
I don't know what you are doing wrong. *ALL* of my games(even games that are designed to run only in Win9x..like Need For Speed: High Stakes) run like a dream on XP for me.
Maybe you have a low end video card like a Kyro II(I've heard alot of bad about thier 2K/XP drivers)? I have a GeForce(Nvidia has some great driver support backing all of thier cards...even the TNT2) and I've heard good things about ATI's drivers for thier new line of Radeon cards(ATI used to have a bad history with drivers).
You gaming problems is probably video card related. If you have any variation of a GeForce don't be using the default Windows XP Nvidia driver because it is just plain out slow...go download a copy of Detonator XP drivers(go for the 21.85's if you don't have a GeForce 4). You also may need to install chipset drivers to get your AGP working correctly. If you have a low amount of Ram Windows XP gaming performance will take a hit. You do know about Compatibility Mode don't you? It makes the app/games'executable think you are running another version of Windows...there is an option for Windows 95, 98/ME, NT4 and Win2K compatibility, to get to compatibility just right click on the executable or shorcut to executable, go to properties then go to the compatibility tab.
-
Damn, with all that gaming experience, you're ready for the MCSE test, actually you probably already have one.
-
Linux looks plain....how can that be when you have completely customizable fucking GUI's? You crazy fucktard zombie. Again throwing this random shit out and once again getting gay-bashed. You must really like the punishment. If you want fucking tricky check out enlightenment. couple clicks and my GUI looks like MacOSX, couple more looks like BeOS, or Windows2k, XP, 9x. Hey homo, bring something to the fucking table if you are going to attempt to start *NIX bashing. Take that dick out of your mouth you pile.
-
Jeez, that OS X knock-off theme is atrocious. Nice try. Too bad it's wrong in a number of key areas.

the only reason a person would do this is because they dont want to look at the same ugly GUI they have been looking at for years with just a little color and menu diffrence, and they want to dream about someday having a real os that does what you want it to...

has anybody noticed that this page now takes ages to load, and all the messages go off the edge of the screen?
That's Zombie6237856738265783256483's screenshots doing that...
Zombie456113, can you please edit yr posts so that the text starts on a new line instead of screwing up the page layout? thank you in advance.

I second this.

Surely to fix it he will have to shrink his images? The forum should have a image size limit, both horizontally and vertically I reckon.
-
yes, that's absolutely right, i was looking at it before though, and he hadn't put a return or even a space between some of the text, and one of the pictures, but it was an optical illusion on my part. it is really the huge size of his pictures. Don't you find it odd that there's a limit of 8 smileys but you can post big stuff like this?
-
In any case common curtesey suggests one should link to the images instead of forcing everyone to d-load them.
-
I vote for torture for anyone who uploads a picture to the forums. Something like sliding down a 50 foot razor blade into a pool of acid would be appropriate!
-
 It's funny how we're bitching about GUI's here when there are some bigger issues on the rise. SSSCA must die!
PS: Hey Zombie9920, did that bikini chick pic come with XP? I know that's a stupid qusetion, anyway. I'm new to the site and I think it's awesome so far!

There is absolutley no way the SSSCA will pass. If it does, we will all be religated to a William Gibson distopia with cyberpunk hackers running around the net like digital robin hoods....
Actually that woulden't be too bad :D
-
let me just say all I've seen you poeple do so far is customize you desktop!! That is nothing just just the look of the computer and the looks are only skin deep they have nothing to do with stability. I hear some people thing Windows XP is better than 2000 (more stable) is this true. I want to set up linux but I'm not sure if I should or not. All I use computers for is games. I also use them for homework. I don't do any really big projects like setting up servers and the such. I think I would blow my brains out if I had to use windows for setting up servers
-
exactly! what bearing does yr desktop picture have on the workings of yr machine????? ?
I agree totally about the razorblades and the acid, but i am confused about one thing... once he's in the acid, will he hallucinate to death???
(only joshing!!)

I was very surprised at having no problems with my XP install. I never did get a single error.
But the HORROR! The first time the OS came up, I knew what I had to do. Frst thing was to remove all of that ugly default GUI and return to classic mode. Then I removed all of the files associated with them. Thn I went to work on the supposedly unremovable apps, gone. Next it was off to the OS tweaks. I tweaked this sucker with everyone I could find and only succeeded in speeding it up a little. I got the install down from 970+ megs to 475, and still no speed up.
Final mission. The removal of XP.

surprise, surfuckingprise. Now you see why your windocentric comments are hardly appreciated around here? it *is* possible to get windows working *better* than its usual, but why try? it's like pissing against the wind.

Another convert, i hope but sincerely doubt. Chances are we will hear all about this guy's ailing (or excellent depending on what yarn gets spun next) "operating system" in the next few weeks...
-
One thing I allways enjoyd about installing MacOSX was the fact that it already ran incredibly fast and didnt require me to go diging thrugh the Terminal in order to tweak the kernel.
Nicest thing about some companyes too is that their installer programs actually allow you to choose what the system installs! So you can get 90% of the optimizing done before you put a single byte onto your hardrive... what a concept!
-
Microsoft truly sucks. But it is still a fact that we all have to use it to play our favourite games on the PC (a alternative is PS2). And Win XP is a good opertive system for that. Infact, it is truly the only thing it is good for.
I do not think that it would be so great to play games (created for windows) in linux no mather how good emulator you use. And we all know that there are not so many games created for Linux.
My point? Windows sucks. But we still need it to play our games. For all other compter related things, USE LINUX. My choice is SuSe Linux.

Uh huh.... replace ur game playing windows with a ps2... I'm not sure where to start on this..
Just.. Let me know when I can enjoy Grim Fandango on the PS2. Then I'll think up a response to ur post.

don't try too hard (to think)
You might have an accident!
