So I was away from my primary computer for a few days using an older one with Windows XPiss on it. I was using what little free time I had to work on my movie. I captured what I need, did a lot of editing, etc.. When I was getting ready to leave I decided to move all the files (a total of 6 DV-AVI files in 7 GB) to a portable NTFS formatted blank hard drive. I start moving the files. The first 4 files (the smaller ones) moved ok. Finally I started moving the last 2 files which were quite larger than the other ones (2 gigs each). About 10% of the way guess Windows explorer crashes. On top of that when I click "End Task" I get a BSOD.
I restart the computer, XPiss does its disk checking thing. I log in. I check both hard drives (the original and the portable one). Guess what? Those 2 files that I was moving during the crash were gone on BOTH! I tried some file recovery but much no luck. I rather redo those two files from scratch then restore partial files and have corrupted audio or video somewhere in the middle.
To Microsoft (because we know you visit this site): I have a question for you:
HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO WRITE A WORKING FILE-MOVING FUNCTION IN A (NON)OPERATING SYSTEM THAT DOMINATES THE MARKET???????
FUCK YOU BILL GATES VERY MUCH FOR THIS. You deserve to be locked up in a prison full of criminals who use Linux and Macs. I hope that one day you end up alone somewhere in the artics and get eaten by penguins. FUCK YOU!

Hope you learned an invalueable lesson from this. Next time COPY the frickin' important, large file to where you want it and then delete the original.
Do you expect me to believe that you did all that editing on an XP machine because you were away from your "primary" PC. C'mon!!!

That's what any well written move program should do when transferring a file between file systems.
Do you mean the invaluable lesson is that people should assume that MS move isn't well written?

If that way of looking at it works better for you, then OK. It's the same either way.

It looks like you should consider a MAC.
This has NEVER happened on a MAC - I recommend the Dual Processor 2gb 64bit G5 - THE MOST POWERFUL COMPUTER IN THE WORLD.
Try a MAC - If you do you will never use a windoooozzzzzz pc again!!

Macs are expencive. No I don't wanna hear about TCO's, I don't have much money.
And why do call "pc" "windoooozzzzzz"? I run Linux on my PC.

Agreed 100%. All I need first is your credit card number to pay for it. :D

i have never had a problem transfering programs in windows, and i swap files often. these files usually range from 1mb to around 1 or 2gb, and i have never had a problem.
i use windows 2k when i am forced to use windows, so maybe this stability it only apparent in 2k. XP may be newer, but i have noticed many reasons to say it is of lesser quality, but why would they have changed something like move from win2k to xp? something so simple that works in an earlier version doesn't need change, but i could be wrong

Because in XP they integrated Internet Explorer even deeper into the OS and made that handle files. Win2000 and all prior Windows versions had the Windows Explorer shell do the file management but no more. As to why they did this...I don't think Bill Gates himself knows.

MACs are NOT EXPENSIVE!
You can get an EMAC for
-
theres more than 2 operating systems in world, you can run linux without the downtimes too and its free
-
ever consider the possibilty that it was your hard drive's fault?
also, you can turn off the BSOD with the click of a checkbox. In fact, when you do, the OS stays active. haha.

Ever consider the possibility that you are braindead?
Windows XP has Internet Explorer in control of most of the operating system including file management. Explain to me how that's good. And no, it was not the hard drives fault.

It sounds stupid to me. IE blows =\
Why would they have it rigged like that? it's like a shoddy half-assed way of doing things. I've never had a problem, though...

Tell microsoft what you think of there product online in there Online Feedback: http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp?from=cu&fu=%2Fisapi%2Fgomscom%2Easp%3Ftarget%3D%2Fmswish%2Fthanks%2Ehtm (http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp?from=cu&fu=%2Fisapi%2Fgomscom%2Easp%3Ftarget%3D%2Fmswish%2Fthanks%2Ehtm) <~~ Dont be shy, tell them what you really think.. Ummmm... I can customize OSX a whole lot easier than windoze (http://tongue.gif)

If I were to get a Mac because you told me to, wouldn't I still be a sheep, except now a sheep with a Mac?
I made my own decision: Linux. Mandrake to be precise.

I've rarely had a file transfer problem with XP, it has been surprisingly stable on the frequent occasions I have to use it for programs like adobe Premiere etc etc...
However, I'm sure many agree it's not a choice for someone looking for rock solid performance, proper usable security etc... Especially when you consider that M$ likes to word their EULA's to their benefit (see their .NET Passport ToU about proprietry works and then never use Hotmail or M$N Messenger for any important communications again!
If money weren't a consideration I'd go out and buy a new Dual PowerMac G5 tomorrow, but it is, and I don't even have the $600 (or UK equivalent) for an eMac over here (and I wouldn't get one because my Linux box outperforms a G3 anyway - better to scrimp together for a faster Mac).
Pity software vendors like Newtek and Adobe won't develop for the Linux platform (Lightwave only offers the rendering core for Linux, not the editor applications, again requiring the use of Windows).
Sigh...

The first thing I learned on a computer when I was like 8, was always back up your information every 5 minutes.
-
Yeah, this happened to me too, on M$ shit, alot.
So I switched to linux, never happened again.
IMHO MS-DOS was the best OS Micro$hit ever made.
-
Microsoft didn't make DOS.
-
maybe thats why its the best

True, forgot about those dual boots.. (http://smile.gif)

I only use a Linux machine. Any issue I've ever had I was able to quickly resolve. My machine has had updtime of 230 days, before I needed to do system changes that required a reboot. I am not sheep and have been happily windows free for 2 years, my primary machine is redhat 8.0. My laptop is slackware dual with Redhat.

Just a question how many of you buy an entire pc when they need an upgrade?! I only bought one desktop pc in my life!! I bought it in 1996 (when my parents realised that I needed my own pc) a p1-mx 233mhz with 32mbram and now I have 4 pcs all made with spare parts but never spend more than 400 euros at the same time so tell me where can I buy a MAC at that price!!!!
What I'm truying to say is that some of us don't have enough money to buy a new pc every time we need an upgrade and flame me if I'm wrong but if I want to upgrade a G3 to a G5 can I just buy the motherboard and the CPU and it will work fine?!
That's why I still prefer the old open market of x86...

I actually think DOS is pretty cool, most likely because it wasn't my Microsoft.
-
I'd say that M$ was just trying to create a 'feature' (bug) that it can fix in its next 'upgrade' of XP that it will charge people for... very m$
"any bug is a feature if it's documented"... forgot who said that...

where do you get your bunk info for this ludicrous claim?
Windows NT has an entire fucking kernel-mode subsystem for filesystem access. they did NOT let IE do it. that's a moronic claim. do you know what IE is?!?!
IE is two components... the MSHTML library, and iexplore.exe, which is a stub binary that loads code from another library to make the window, toolbars, et cetera.
trust me... internet explorer has NOTHING TO DO WITH FILESYSTEM ACCESS.
IE isn't even the shell. IE and Windows Explorer both call the same library (shell32.dll) to draw their window. Windows Explorer uses MSHTML to render HTML (as do many Windows apps), and it uses the SAME CODE AS WINDOWS NT 4 to draw folder views... that's why folder views are THE SAME.
you really do make the most absurd claims
-
Refalm - Hahaha, I like that one, so funny (http://tongue.gif)
Yeah what happened with DOS was originally Bill Gates stole it off a company & sued them, then they renamed DOS MS-DOS (MicroSoft DOS) & released it as their own product, and of course, everyone at that time thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, except back then they weren't the only ones with DOS (there was DR-DOS, made by Caldera aka. DigitalResearch DOS).

Instead of shouting expletives constantly on this forum, please just kindly install an alternative OS on your system - and then vent your anger out on your Microsoft product CD-ROMs (spend most of your time on the latter).
Oh, and, about this:

It's powerful alright - almost as powerful as the new comp I'm getting (http://tongue.gif) - and you don't even know what you're talking about. 2GB Dual Processor? What are you TALKING about? Don't mix up your CPU and RAM, or your next computer is going to turn out as an expensive piece of junk.
