How long do you think it will be befor a general crack for XP activation will appear?
-
who cares? do you need it to run suse? do you need it to run wine?
actually i don't know if a crack would be a good or a bad thing. i kind of hope microsoft's anti "piracy" campaign works because they will just make it so difficult for people to use their stuff for free, that those people will flock to linux (and similar).
-
XP? What the hell is that? :D
-
I thought they had one out way back within a few weeks of it release. But XP is hardly worth cracking.
-
You don't need a crack. The only thing it takes is delete a file and change some stuff in the register... for more information STFW.
-
i remember there being a registry hack for it. but, if you are going to use windows, you could at least use 2000.
-
XP was cracked before it hit the store shelves. I downloaded it and tested it myself over a year ago just for fun to see if it worked. Which it did. You can still get the crack or the entire XP Os from gnutella network if you so desire
But it is really no big deal cause I have used Linux for 6 years and really don't give a $hit about Microsoft or using it's products and XP is old news anyways.
You can get/download for free a new version of some Linux flavor Os on a month by month basis. And it is loaded with apps that would cost thousands of dollars from M$. Go price M$ Office the pro version and see what I mean.
Should the GDP ever figure out that Linux is easy to install, simple to use and is free there will be a M$ mutiny!

I was just curious, if the not so mainstream community had caught up with it yet. I had assumed that it had but I wanted to know for sure.
I don't do it but, I condone MS pirating, because it makes MS even more paranoid, I wanna get MS to the point where if you try to create a network a box pops up saying "What the hell do you think your doin' !"
-
Or "we're sorry, but your version of Windows doesnt support networking. Please input the 45 digit computer specific activation code purchasable from www.microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com) to continue creating a network. If you have recently upgraded your network card you will now have to purchase a new activation code as you are technically using a new computer. You will also need a new copy of Windows as your version of Windows was licensed to your previous computer, and you have as above stated changed your computer by changing the network card."
-
I had a working crack that i downloaded for (...).
I also had a working crack for windows xp longhorn(the prereleased) and that also worked.
Be sure you have the right Os version

um actually i tried to get wine to work and it just wouldn't work..it would just not compile even though i got all the required libraries (flex, bison, xfree86-deve and standard gcc libraries).
i got Windows XP back on my computer today and know the weird thing? it's stable as hell so far... wanna know the secret? DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS UPDATES. i don't even have service pack 1 installed on this thing and it's the most stable its been in about 2 years!
btw there IS an activation crack and it DOES work. i had to use it to reinstall my LEGAL COPY OF WINDOWS WHICH I PAID FOR! Windows gave me some BS about CD key used too many times (see other thread) so a crack was needed just to use the copy which i legaly own.

Oh goody, now you're vulnerable to even more exploits than normal. Including one that lets anyone delete selected portions of your HDD. ;)
OTOH I'm not surprised that Windows are making things worse with every upgrade - they are just bandaids on top of one big bandaid ball after all.
-
bandaids? lol. more like moist cloths that were left sitting near some raw beef.

You'd think even a bandaid ball would be more stable

Ok a hint about Wine. It's not Windows stuff. You can do all sorts of things with it and WineX, but a n00b can't just dive in and succeed. Ok I can't speak from experience, but this is the impression I've gotten from Wine. It spits out n00bs and rewards 1337 d00dz. ;)
