I was stupid and used my XP cd to format my new HDD, and it started installing XP on the drive...I just deleted the files it wrote on it but now it keeps trying to boot the incomplete install. I have tried to repair the installation but it won't find it, and I have tried to delete the partition/reformat the drive but when I boot it still thinks the other version of XP is partially installed...how can I fix this?
-
PS I am going to install Linux on part of the drive so don't shoot me for being a Windows user

Edit C:\boot.ini
-
Boot a Linux CD and run fdisk there. Delete the partition in there, and then boot the XP CD and start installing again.
Or better yet, don't install XP at all :D
-
Figured it out..just ran msconfig and went to the boot.ini part...hit the check boot path button and it said that one version of XP was screwed up and let me delete it.
Easier than editing boot.ini because sometimes it's hard to tell which XP is which

I'd rather use LILO for booting. It looks better because you can download skins for it

Yea what Tux said, if you thought Linux was complex, try understanding boot.ini, at least its all explained in grub.conf
