View -> Customize this Folder
-
quote:
Add a Background to a Folder
1. Double-click the "My Computer" icon from the Desktop.
2. Navigate to the folder which you would like to apply the background to.
3. Click the View menu and select "Customize This Folder..." from the menu that appears.
4. Check the "Choose a Background Picture" option.
5. Click Next.
6. Select a picture from the list, or if you have another image that you want to use, click the "Browse..." button and locate the image.
7. You can also change the icon caption colors if the default color doesn't show up well on the background image.
8. Click Next.
9. Click Finish.
10. Your background image will now be applied to the folder.
*ten* steps to this incredibly simple process!
i am astonished!
Is this the mark of a good technical writer? *I* could do that! watch:
Tie Your Shoelaces
1 bend over
2 pick up one end of one of your shoelaces with one of your hands
3 pick up the other end of the same shoelace with your other hand
et cetera ad infinitum...
no wonder those MCSE books are so huge!

Hey Henk,
It's not much use asking people on the MES (Read: Macroshaft Eradictation Society) something about Macroshaft's brand new crapass product, Winblows XP. Since most of them know that macroshaft is evil, they can't help ya 'cuz they simply don't have it.
Unless mr. Clock has it ...
Call a macroshaft helpdesk, ask them, and they will answer your question if they do not have the slightest suspicion that you are a criminal (http://tongue.gif) ( to macroshaft, you are a criminal if you copy YOUR copy of winblows xp on YOUR second computer )

Henk, install linux and microwave your XP CD for 5 seconds, then come back asking questions.
I don't have XP and never will. Why? you're using it, and putting up with it, you tell me.
Good luck, you're on your own sucker. I hope you find a solution (preferably not one which comes with the Microsoft logo on it, make yr own mind up...)

Since everyone likes my regedit tricks try this one:
Start->Run->regedit
Delete any keys with "Control" in their names (everything under CurrentControlSet for instance). These keys are Microsoft's way of "controlling" the folder backgrounds. If you delete those registry keys it will "unlock" the "Folder-Background" menu.
