Just upgraded to a P4 and am running AutoCADD under Windoze XP. I'd like to run it, if possible, under another OS, Linux or whatever. Anyone tell me if they know whether it's possible?

It may well be possible on wine but since wine is (despit the name) emulation it probably isnt the right thing for a resource hungry app like AutoCAD.
VMWare Workstation (http://vmware.com) might be more appropriate but I have limited experience of it so i'll hand over to void now....
Also, I do not think this is the correct forumfor this thread.

If you go to http://appdb.codeweavers.com (http://appdb.codeweavers.com) and look for AutoCAD they might be able to give some pointers as to how to get it to work, if anyone has gotten it working yet.

Autocad stuffses
Franks Corner AutoCAD R14 (http://frankscorner.org/wine/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=6&page=1)
General
Wine Development HQ (http://www.winehq.com/)
I think Void Main expressed a preference for VM Ware - but I could be wrong.
Alternatives Lin/Win/Mac
LinuxCad (http://www.linuxcad.com/)
Haven't tried it myself - if someone has would say what it's like, cheers.
When you find the solution please let the board know - information is gold.
Thanks

People say LinuxCAD is a pile of shit.

LinuxCAD won't compare to AutoCAD, most likely. I have successfully run AutoCAD 2000i under XP with VMware workstation in RH 7.2. It ran fine, no problems with 3D or anything.
Get VMware here (http://www.vmware.com/download/workstation.html) and try it out. Its a 30 day trial, after which is stops functioning. If you are serious about running windows apps on a Linux-only box, this software is well worth the money.
