I thought I was being helpful by referring him to a Microsoft support BBS where he should be able to find the answer.

OK, you've got a good point there...
Vindegek seemed write a bit lame, but then again, he's not very good with English...

He already got Linux... don't jump to conclusions.
Some people may write in bad English, but keep in mind that they could be from a non-English country.

Hey, I didn't jump to any conclusions. I thought his english was fine (at least as good as mine). I also made the Linux comment just as I would have to anyone on this site who asked for help with Windows. I feel it's my duty. It was hard to tell that he already has Linux since it was his first post and it had no mention of Linux. But all that aside, welcome to the forums! (http://smile.gif)

Actually I know someone who had this problem. It turned out his M/B was screwed and his BIOS was all sorts of gibberish, with no Hard drives registered - and yet it was running okay when up. Of course it was an OEM provison by Packard Bell - So I told him serves you right now get a new computer - he did. I'm giving him Linux now. Never did find out if the broken hardware was the cause of his 2K prob.

my solution is the best, turn it off at the mains. It works dunnit?, always did for me...
BIOS update might help, but then again I thought that helped on a PC once and the the problem cam back. Stupid ACPI crap.

Yes sir! Nothing makes me feel better that pushing the big red button on that POS OS from M$
Just hit the spacebar when scandisk starts, windows itself fucks up your hard drive more than flipping the switch!
(maybe slight exageration)
(nahhhhhhhhhhhh!) (http://tongue.gif)
