Title: winxp file sharing
Post by: hnugz on 16 June 2002, 23:13
I have winxp pro on one computer and win98 on the other.  If I try to share files on the winxp machine and access them from my win98 machine, it asks me for a password.  The line "\\hnugz\ipc$" is my resource.  What is this?  I don't remember setting a password and i've tried all the ones I use but nothing works.  Can I disable this?

Make the directory you want to share non-edit.

You can do this by:

Right clicking on the shared directory | Selects prefrences | Share | Deselect "Networkusers can change my files"

you guys arent very good at this.... watch:

hnugz, if you had Linux on your computer with win98 on the other, then you could easily get your windows files using Linux. And if you had both computers running Linux, you would have no problems setting up NFS and sharing files.
[cruelty]also make sure you go into c:\nul\nul from you win98 machine[/cruelty]
