My asshole "friend" borrowed my computer and wanted to "be nice" and installed fucking Windows XP Professional on it.
How the hell do I get this shit off?!!!
I don't have the disk - I want to reformat completely and the disk is partitioned into 3 drives (not sure if that's a Microsoft fuck you cuz you installed XP feature).
I just want my Win98SE back on it - which I have my original CD for.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just boot up to any linux install, and it will let you get rid of that nasty windows xp virus.
Seriously, most distros let you delete all partitions, and re-partition anyway you like. (http://smile.gif)

you want to format all 3 partitions? get the boot disk for your HD. boot it up, follow the format directions. then boot with a 98 boot disk. put in your 98 cd, run setup.exe .
that how i interperted your post, if your talking bout something completely different oh well.
-
For God's sake don't do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
why downgrade to windows 98, when you could upgrade to linux for free?
honestly, for some people there will never be any hope! (http://smile.gif)

Ok to get rid of that XP, firstly restart into MS-dos mode. (don't use a start up disk just get into dos) now onbce your at the prompt, type "Format C:" (don't put a slas after the : ) ok now hit yes, and it will format. Once your done you can restart your computer, put in the win98se bootdisk, and when the menu comes up, choose "start computer with CD-ROM support" now once the cd drivers are loaded, stick in the win98se cd and begin the setup. and that should do it.
__________----If that doesn't work,----________
then, get into dos w/ a start up disk. When it says A:\ type "fdisk.exe". Now it will bring u to some crap. If your file system(s) is(are) NTFS it has to go. NTFS is different from 32-bit. now delete the partition(s) if it(they) is(are) NTFS. Once thats done. Restart the computer, go into the prompt again w/ the disk. now type Fdisk.exe again, and now this time instead of deleting a partition, make one, and then set it active. Once thts done, restart yur system. Now start the computer w/ cd rom support and begin the install form win98se.
Now i'm pretty sure thats how u do it, but don't take my word for it. I might have forgotten something. If this fails and your computer can't do anything, then learn how to fix it or get a new hd. I'm pretty sure what I have said is right, but don't take my word for it. Check with a computer expert other than me (which I am not the best one).
_______________Or_________
Do what everyone else says and get linux
I hope people can follow this?

If someone gave me a present like that I would kick them in the nuts.
One question though, how did he manage it?

See?! Installing Linux is way easier than that!
