People who don't like it:

quote:
Hm still no support for Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and other formats. And the MP3 decoder is still one of the worst in quality.

quote:
Practicly the worst styled windows media player for a long time. The colour and overall design just aren't practical. Its not only an eye soar to look at, but the buttons are barley readable and moving the bar to the top is annoying to say the least.

quote:
The reason there is no support for Ogg, FLAC and other great formats is because Microsoft is destined to make their Windows Media strategy succeed. If they supported Ogg Vorbis, then Ogg Vorbis would be a more appealing choice for a lot of users and publishers, since it would be natively asupport by Windows.

That is not the case. The only format natively support is Windows Media, so better shell out the cash for a Windows Media Broadcasters license, if you want to publish your video or sound to the web.

Of course the MP3 decoder sucks, Microsoft don't like MP3. Bill Gates wants WMA - only.
A crippled MP3 Decoder will help to embrace the concencus that MP3 is a format of bad sound quality.

quote:
what a lame media player

quote:
Did any of you read the privacy statement?

And so on...

People who do:

quote:
WHO CARES ABOUT THE STYLE it is the new skin for the longhorn beta it looks clean and crisp. and thats right you can get your own plugins shit for being elitist bastards youd think you would know that. btw its just a beta prolly not even official or if it is its way old cuz the wmp 10 showed off at WINhec was way more intuitive. stop being ms haters and deal with it its comming with your os anyhow. and really who cares about bloat when you are on a 2ghz+ system with 1gb of ddr shit guys wmp 5 or whatever ill bet you are still on win2k

Oh, dear. The interface looks even worse than WMP9. It surpasses Real Player in clutter and bloat, if that's possible.

I never EVER liked WMP!  I'll take xine and xmms ANY DAY!

loves gxine!   :D      (http://graemlins/tux.gif)

Who cares if you could add a plugin or whatever.  By default I can play ANY media I want without any TCPA crap built into it.  No degrading, no nothing.  Just fun and easy listing media!

Windows Media Player 10 is only available for Windows XP

Thank god for me.  :D  (win2k user)

I still like 6.4 better than any of them, and I only use that for WMA/WMV stuff.  Winamp otherwise.

At least the interface of RealPlayer doesn't look like it was made by a 15 year old Windows fan who enjoys making crappy WindowBlinds skins. Plus, RealPlayer can run on more operating systems than Linux.

That doesn't make its interface any less cluttered or bloated. And the fact that WMP looks childish in addition of being clunky is precisely what makes it worse than Realplayer.

There was an ogg vorbis plugin available for WMP... it would probably work with this newest abomination.

That is why I was using the word "at least". I know RealPlayer is bloated, but most people actually like that (I wouldn't anyway). But hell, it makes a damn good alternative to Windows Media Player on well... everything.

Indeed. WMP 9 was an iTunes rip off, WMP 10 is a "1/5 stars-rated Winamp skin" rip off.
