Yes it is VERY nice!

But the RPMs wouldnt work for me - said i didnt have GTK2 (which of course i do).

I downloaded the source and installed iut no problem.

PS: if you install GAIM using the source, as i did, and you still have previous GAIM, when typing Run > GAIM you will still get the old game.
Create a shortcut to '/usr/local/bin/gaim'
;D

how annoying that the rpm wouldn't work! i get annoyed at these "noarch" rpms that are actually red hat rpms and won't work on mandrake style systems. personally i just installed a slackpack of gaim and it worked beautifully.

The new interface is absolutely beautiful.  I was kinda jealous of the Windows port their for a while, but this really takes the cake.  It also has a lot more features like the Idle Maker, etc.  I can have some real fun w/ this software.

how big is the download?

i think i'll have to update my desktop next time i boot it. it has a 1k/sec download speed, however. and that is annoying

Too bad .60 was extremly buggy and in .61 my conversation window freezes randomly.

Sheesh--this even happens in CVS, and I've even talked to the developers about it.

Well 0.62 just came out Tues.  I think they're going to be speedind development up.  According to the site there is going to be a new release biweekly.  0.62 is a good bit of bug fixes, but there are going to be more features added in 0.63.  I can't imagine what else they could add.

Any ideas?

I can't get 0.62 to compile.  It keeps complaining about not being able to find GTK, and I do have the GTK development libraries installed.

Are they GTK2 libraries?

Yes.

I should also mention that gaim 0.61 compiled without a problem.

what distro do you use, emh?

Mandrake 9.0, using the 2.4.21 multimedia kernel.

The last thing I upgraded was Freetype.  I upgraded to 2.1.4 via RPM.  Would that possibly have anything to do with my GAIM not wanting to link to my GTK libraries?

I dunno... I'd suggest using urpmi to update it if you can, it solves the deps.

I used a source rpm to create rpms for Freetype 2.1.4, I issued the rpm --rebuild command to rebuild the rpms, so all dependencies were already resolved.  That's not the issue.
