Title: mozilla 1.4 on Linux and broken Java plugin
Post by: mobrien_12 on 26 July 2003, 11:37
Hi, I just dl and installed mozilla 1.4 because of the security flaws I read about in earlier versions.

Unfortunately, my java plugin is now broken.  This is the console output.
Code: [Select]

This is the latest j2re from SUN which I just DL because similar things were happening with the older j2re1.3.1 which used to work great with mozilla.

Any ideas?

Reinstall Mozilla

As Root:

Go to  jigzone.com (http://www.jigzone.com)
(don't ask), go to prefrences makesure that you allow instal over the web:

Edit
--Prefrences
-----Advanced
---------Software Instalation

and click on one of the jigsaw puzzles (they require j2re) and it will ask if you want to download, and install the required plugin.  Click yes, and finito, the fool proof way (thats how I did it)

If your like me and installed 1.4 without getting rid of what ever your distro has stock, it will send it to the old version not 1.4, in wich case you just go /home/$%&*&*/Mozilla/plugin and cut and paste the whole folder over to 1.4

another fool proof way that I did

I know im ODD

a better solution would be to just use mozilla project firebird (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/) to browse the net and use Ximian for email.

figure out why here - why use firebird (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/why)
