IE for mac doesn't crash, just shows a text box like any other browser.  Didn't bother to test it on WIndows

IE runs Active X, unlike Mozilla.  Active X is M$'s propriatary software.  It might be illegal to make it run on anything other than IE.  Active X is dangerous, it can contain viruses that would have a hayday with your PC.  Applets, which run like Active X but on any browser, do not have the same security problems.

How come Mozilla Dosen't come with Java Plugins.

I thought Sun would be OK with something like that.

Microsoft doesn't need to worry about anyone stealing ActiveX technology. No one is that dumb.

The windows version of mozilla does come with Sun's Java plugin.

I guess the linux one doesn't in order to giv the user a choice between Sun and Blackdown.

True. Only Windows versions of IE crash, from version 4.0 to 6.0. Don't have to worry though. M$ will fix this bug eventually in let's say another 7 years from now.   :D

Perhaps to save on the download size?

Sun is OK with that. I could download Java plug-ins, however, with dial-up, it takes too damn long and I don't need them bad enough to wait over an hour for them to load up.

well i reckon there is no reason to make it needlessly hard for linux users. why don't they make a linux version with sun java built in et c and give you the choice?

the sun virtual machine installer is not very good even when installed directly from sun's binary, it leaves you to put the java dir in your path yourself.

I'm not sure I follow the argument.  Mozilla doesn't come with the latest java plugin?  I am using Mozilla 1.0.2 and I was asked to download jre140_01i.xpi java plugin to view a page linked to this site.

I couldn't get that little exploit to work on IE 6.1.  I guess either they finally fixed it, or it's just not working for me.

IE uses plugins just like any other browser, although IE comes w/ M$ own Java, etc. (inferior proprietary nonsense).

The only plugins that you really need to download for Mozilla is Flash and Java, after that it should run fine for you.  I suggest you update to the latest stable though (1.3.1).  One of these days Mozilla will come w/ the plugins built in, but it would be a larger download.
