I'm getting sick of flash ads. Problem is, I need shockwave flash for some sites. Anyone know a way to turn it off and on, or perhaps how to block flash ads from certain sites (like we can do with images in mozilla)?

i assume you mean the blinking ads/banners that appear on some pages?
there is an option in opera to stop this, not sure about mozilla (but i am sure there is a similar option)...who's the mozilla expert here?

This (http://texturizer.net/firebird/adblock.html) thing works well for the majority of flash ads. I'm able to visit IGN.com without any ass-raping. Why I would want to visit though.... I dunno. :D

Prefbar (http://prefbar.mozdev.org/) for Mozilla and Firebird kills Flash with a click of a button.

You can block many ads altogether with your hosts file. I get the servers from here (http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/).

Thanks all!
I've tried both Fett's file and the toolbar that refalm posted. They are both very nice solutions and will work together.
I found the idea of blocking adservers with the /etc/hosts file very interesting (thanks for the link m51dps!).
Again, thank you all.

A good test for your new ad blocking is most definately IGN.com - especially their "Vault Network" - packed with Flash ads!
For the poor Windows users out there, there's a thing called proxomitron (or alternatively the hosts file - if you can find it)
You could always firewall out the ad servers?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
Edit it with Vi IMproved (http://www.vim.org/). Notepad, Word or WordPad won't work.

I discovered this today
http://flashblock.mozdev.org/ (http://flashblock.mozdev.org/)
It's a mozilla plugin that disables flash by default. If there's a flash thing you want to see, you click on it and it opens, so that which is not explicity permitted is denied.

ZoneAlarm Pro blocks the mobile code required for flash on all sites except ones I specifically allow, so I don't see the ads. Flash ads are gay.
