This is the most surreal thread I've seen in a while, yet I have an unsettling feeling that it's not supposed to be surreal...

I have one of those M$ IntelliMouse. I didn't buy it as it was a gift. And, yes, I did notice that. Which is why it's one of the few things with the name "Microsoft" on it that actually works right! When I installed Linux, that M$ mouse was recognized and configured during the install, and it works great.  (http://smile.gif)  OTOH, when I installed it on the old Win 95 system, I needed an install CD that unloaded at least 10MB of crap just to get the thing working.      WTF does something as simple as a mouse need a goddam install CD? Especially a Microsoft mouse on a Microsoft op-sys.    That's just plain nuts.  (http://tongue.gif)

i see! we're talking about a Microsoft intellimouse are we? this thread almost makes sense now...

It's not really Microsoft, they don't make hardware, they just like to pay every now and again for people to stamp the Microsoft logo on keyboards and mice and so on.

Time for a soothing essay (http://www.pornolize.com/cgi-bin/pornolize2/pornolize2.cgi?lang=en&url=http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/ofnote/04-21billgessay.asp) by Bill Gates, I think.

I have microsofts intellimouse and it works great, never had one problem.

In fact when I got it on my online gaming ability increased by about 20%.

my server, which i have *maybe* once used the mouse has a belkin USB scroll mouse that is really cool, and my main computer has a crappy compaq PS/2 mouse. I am just too lazy to switch them.

its name is algernon

if you are a gamer, i suggest a wireless optical mouse.  really accurate for aiming and such.  i had to repair my aunts m$ cabled optical mouse because the mount for the cable into the mouse was too weak, and a wire snapped.

oh and i still have a working compaq mouse that game with a 386 ages ago.  wonder if US NASA will buy it

I switched over and now i am forced to use this amazing mouse with oodles of dpi scrolling. This kicks ass.
Now I am going to have to sleep for a couple days straight to make up for all the effort i put into switching.

I have one of those wireless optical intellimice.  It sucks.  Loses its goddamn connection about every 3-4 minutes, requiring the user to frantically shake the shit out of it for a minute or two to reconnect.  It's especially fucking annoying when you're in an online diablo II game and the thing craps out on you in the middle of a battle.

I've since scrapped the $50 piece of junk and gone back to my Logitech wireless mouse.  Yeah, it's heavy... but it doesn't lose its connection every 5 minutes!

You'd think that if they wanted to stamp their name on a piece of hardware, they'd wanna make sure that it's not a piece of shit before doing so.

Or maybe not.

I love my Microsoft optical mouse.  Very reliable.
Title: that mouse
Post by: choasforages on 14 June 2002, 04:10
yeah, mine used to be reliable too notice the word *used*
Title: that mouse
Post by: sporkme on 14 June 2002, 10:30
not reliable at all.  i have been in one, it is a terrible design.

i just resoldered the connections and laid it on thick

then i epoxied the wire in the hole

i would imagine that it would void the warrenty

oh and also the bendin the cable where it exits the mouse body is a weak point for the interior wires.  i split it open up to there and taped up a couple holes in the insulation.  give it slack and you should be ok.

your wireless mouse is either low on batteries, is experiencing interference, or is defective.  what manufacturer?  the logitech on the other pc has a range of over 50 ft through walls.  it has never disconnected.  consider untangling your cabling, em fields crossing will do that to any wireless thingamabob.

the best mouse i have ever used and am using now is a fellowes gel mouse.  old shit.  easy to clean.

and the old reliable compaq mouse is ready should this one crap.

edit:

the simpler the mouse, the more reliable it will be.  consider an off brand.

For ONCE I have to agree with XP Loser.

The only problem is that the USB to PS2 connector that comes bundled with the thing is a POS and comes undone all the time, but hey...what do you expect from a microshit product.

Otherwise, the optical mouse works fine for me.  And I'll bet it's even an acquired technology they got from someone else, am I wrong?
Title: that mouse
Post by: voidmain on 25 June 2002, 23:32
They didn't even acquire the technology, they just pay someone to stamp their name on it and charge more.
