Title: How would you alter your desktop?
Post by: slave on 12 February 2003, 21:08
Personally I've been wanting to see what Gnome would look like with menu/window shadows and translucency so I made this mock up image:

www.insanebaboon.netfirms.com/gnome.html (http://www.insanebaboon.netfirms.com/gnome.html)

There are several things I would change about various desktop environments, what about you?  If anybody else wants to make a desktop interface mockup and put it here, then do so, so we can see it.  Mine is pretty stupid but I'm sure other people can find ways of making KDE, Gnome, etc. look different or better somehow.

Gnome doesnt have transparent menus? I just assumed it did since KDE does. Anyway thats a pretty neat pic.

Nice, but I think you missed the point.  You're supposed to modify the snapshot to add features/eye candy that your gui doesn't support yet.

So you want me to pretend I have the desktop I want?
I mean I modified it how I wanted. Then when I ran into trouble I made it do what I wanted.

he means that this thread is for desktop screenshots of impossible desktop setups, like you can't have menu transparency in GNOME, so he made a fake desktop picture with menu transparency in GNOME and so on. there's already another thread for posting your real unmodified screenshots in you see.

Thats pretty funny looking. A transparent web browser. I just hope you dont have a lot of icons on your desktop, or a cluttered background image, or you wont be able to read anything.
