Title: New Computer, New Problems
Post by: solo on 29 June 2003, 03:25
(http://smile.gif)  I installed Redhat on my custom built AOpen, with a 1.7 ghz celeron... installed fine, detected the video card (geforce mx), and everything. Only thing that's a bit weird is the audio (thru the i845 ac97 driver). It works, but the sound is *very* soft. I didn't hear it until I cranked it up, and even then it was so soft I have to put my ear up to the speaker to hear it. The mixer is up full... Is there something I can do to fix this?

Whichever sound mixer you choose, there should be a volume slider for both Master and PCM.  Be sure both of these are turned up to reasonable levels.

Try to get aumix either by RPM or via apt-get.  If not, build it from source:

SHEESH i have aumix!!!! i have kmix!!! i have the gnome mixer!!!!

the OSS mixer (/dev/mixer) which controls all sound levels on the OSS-compatible sound card driver is maxxed out. All levels are absolutely topped, nothing's muted. There is nothing I can do regarding mixers.
