Title: Playing 3.11a Divx files
Post by: Kat on 15 August 2002, 02:32
Alright, i got the Divx 5 codec, but obviously that doesn't play stuff encoded with the 3.11a codec. I was wondering if there was a codec for 3.11a in Linux or something that would play them. I know that mplayer has some codecs up for download, but do they play these types of files?  I like Xine and would like to know how i would get Xine to use these codecs if they do.  (http://smile.gif)

I ply 3.11 divX movies fine in Linux with just the 5.02 codec installed.
I don't use Xine though but the divxplayer you can download with the codec.

Once you have the codec installed xine will play divx movies fine without any additional configuration.

now on mplayer. it kicks ass, im just wondering how do i set mozilla up to use it instead of xine.

I installed the Divx 5 codec and can play my Divx 4 and 5 vids fine. It is just when i play stuff encoded with 3.11a that i get picture, but no sound(codec problem).  I guess i will install mplayer when i reinstall Linux and see what happens. I have to install nvidia drivers before anything else, so i guess that will be a sort of a practice(because everyone says the rpms for those suck).   (http://smile.gif)

It should come with a Readme(you can open it in Openoffice). If i remember correctly you su into the directory(after unzipping it) and type something like ./ install.sh. I didn't install it to anywhere particular, but it worked.
If you want to double check, there is a Linux forum there: http://forums.divx.com/viewforum.php?forum=15 (http://forums.divx.com/viewforum.php?forum=15)
