i decided to replace my suse install with redhat8.0. this machine also has windows on it. i have 3 hard drives in there. one of them, the one with all my drawing files, etc.. is on a promise ide card. during bootup, redhat sees the drive, but hangs when it checks for partitions. i let it sit there for like 20 minutes before i restarted. i unpluged the drive, and it botted no problem. im assuming that not a whole lot has changed under redhats hood. anybody have a suggestion?
thanks in advance

Latest RedHat's are not working with some Promise controllers.
for example:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=64439 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=64439)
You might want to try downloading kernel 2.4.19 from www.kernel.org, (http://www.kernel.org,) compiling and installing it.
You can do this without uninstalling the old kernel if you add a second bootloader entry for it, so there's little risk.

thank you. i will try that.
