Yep. Looks like someone is really desperate.. :D

Um, didn't Apple already try this phrase? If you look at the picture then watch the right orange triangle after it says "fewer servers", you might notice something . . .

(if my link doesn't work, go here (http://www.apple.com/hardware/) and look at the powerbook section.

Indeed! (http://tongue.gif) Look at how M$ screwed up IIS. This service is so horrible that companies were advised not to use it at all. Then there's the competition from Linux in the server end of the market. Finally, take a good look at this: M$ Fraud Facts (http://www.billparish.com/msftfraudfacts.html). His Gatesness took the short-range view, and now the chickens are returning to Redmond to roost. (http://tongue.gif)
Giving away the source code to Winderz, first to China, then Russia, giving away a "warez" version of their own Visual Studio, and now this...
Yep, it's desperation time in the Land of Redmond, where the shadows lie. :D

Their fundamental design flaws are completely concealed by their superficial design flaws.

its only an evaluation copy. i didnt really expect much more from them anyways

That's a horribly-designed ad! It goes from overly-gaudy colors to a gray gradient and you can't even read part of the text very well on the lighter side. And what's with the stupid guy in the center? Is he supposed to be saying it or what?? You'd think a multi-BILLION DOLLAR corporation would be able to employ some GOOD graphic designers!!

this is always gates' attitude. they turf out a load of hoary old schlock and then bugfix it for years always managing to just keep it usable enough for people not to drop it en masse. just the microsoft name is enough to carry this shitty garbage they turn out in the name of profits.
sadly, even if this "free" IIS server is only a demo, it still means the morons who accepted it in the first place now have experience using IIS server and will most likely choose IIS over some "mystery" linux option purely because they think they know what they're doing more with windows. say what you like about microsoft's non stylish adverts and mediocre code, but they do succeed in subversive marketing.

The weird thing is, die-hard Windows users are usually intelligent people. They just have made the mistake of assuming they know what's going on. Says a lot about humans in general.

I like IIS (snigger)
There's nothing like the fresh smell of flooded exploding modem because of stupid IIS Virii to wake you up in the morning

If you like, you can download the full demonstartion verion from: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/2/b/52beb621-1a93-41bb-a57d-ea5c7aef7f76/x09-22207.iso (http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/2/b/52beb621-1a93-41bb-a57d-ea5c7aef7f76/x09-22207.iso)
the only restriction is, a 280 day time-out piriod. I want to download it myself, but it's about 550 megabites, and well, that's just a little to much over a sloooooww Dial-up connection! But, if anyone else, (hopefully with a faster connection) wants to give it a try go ahead! A would appreshiate it if you'd tell us what happend!
Here is all the info you'll need:
DOWNLOAD URL: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/2/b/52beb621-1a93-41bb-a57d-ea5c7aef7f76/x09-22207.iso (http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/2/b/52beb621-1a93-41bb-a57d-ea5c7aef7f76/x09-22207.iso)
SIZE: 550 MB
FILENAME: x09-22207.iso
CD-KEY: TCVQK-77D8T-HW4D8-23PQK-HQYBT (You'll need this to install it)
To install it you must:
1. Download it
2. Burn the CD image file (.iso) to CD
3. Reboot, set your BIOS to boot from CD (press DEL at the first screen)
4. Reboot again, and insert your burned CD
5. Have FUN!
Detailed instructions can be found on the CD. (readme.htm)
Enjoy, I guess?

If you have dialup, that just begs the question: Why do you need Windows Server 2003?
-
Desperate? What? Why, the biggest dedicated-unmanaged-server business in the world is currently signing a deal with Microsoft to offer Windows servers.
And before you call me a liar: www.rackshack.net (http://www.rackshack.net)
They're located in the same city as me, too. Heh. (Their DC is probably not too far away, either.)
-
This just in: Microsoft gives away free SARS-infested blankets to poor people! Isn't that nice of them?
-
i wud hope that if i was designing a banner, that no-one wud be stupid enuff to read it and/or click it, and any other shit banner/ad.
ahem
-
Can anyone understand that?
You hope that if you designed a banner that no-one would click it?

And how much is the biggest dedicated-unmanaged-server business in the world profiting from said deal? Business, is business, and M$'s business is always dirty. I promise you, M$ has found something to add to the deal (or, to make things "appear" legit, offer in a seperate deal) that is just too sweet for rackshack to resist.
