I'd like to see someone on this forum test the new Wine X... if it's really good, there is no reason for someone to play games on Win32...

my advice after trying out WineX 2.1:

hold on to that windows partition just a bit longer   :(

(civ3 wouldn't even install, most older games which didn't work in previous wine versions still don't work, don't have the rest of the games mentioned)

NOTE:

this was without a native windows partition, wine refuses to recognize my windows partition, so I did a wine only install and changed ~/.wine/config to reflect my real windows partition

EDIT:

civ 3 uses installshield which is not supported by the CVS version of WineX. I suspect it would be the same for the other games mentioned, am installing it now on my windows partition and will see if it works ....

well ... civ3 worked, but that about says it all. It reacted sluggish and crashed once. Seems I won't be throwing my winblows partition out just yet :-/

I'm using whatever version of Wine(note: no X...oh well) that comes with RH 7.2 and I got StarCraft to work rather well.. It takes some editing of the "Registry" /home./wine is where it is located.. or in /root./wine depending on what logon you are using...  I got around some dirrectX lacking problems by stealing the drivers from a win98 machine with DX8(POS stopped my DVD player from working on my machine ).  but I think I'll try the newest WINEX and see what I can get... I had the help of a cool guy in Finland names Ari though.. Everyone can use an Ari..

Anyhoo, go to winehq.com and look up the thing on installing SC on Wine.. and you might find something helpful about other progs

BTW: Can I install WineX over just plane Wine? I wanna keep my config files... than again.. a gui might help out if there is one.. I know SAMBA has some nice ones like SWAT.
