Title: konqueror 3
Post by: Master of Reality on 24 May 2002, 01:36
Konqueror 3 is pissing me off. It wont show buttons, it wont load java applets (after i enabled java). Other than all this it looks wonderful, has anyone had problems like this?

Is there a particular page that you are having problem with that I could look at and see if I also have problems with it?  Also, do you actually have Java installed?  If you do not, it will not load applets even if you have it turned on in Konq.

its every page that has buttons, this also happened last time i installed konq 3. I can sometimes hit the buttons (if i know where they are on the page).
I have Java (Mozilla works fine with my java applet chatroom that is in The Abyss (http://abyss.servebeer.com))

That's funny. I got it working in Konq 3 and in Netscape, but not in Mozilla.

Do you have "plugger" installed? Do you have a /etc/pluggerrc? If not, copy /etc/pluggerrc.rpmnew to /etc/pluggerrc. Do you have jre1.3.1_03 installed? Do you have konq3 pointing to the "java" binary from jre1.3.1_03?  Did you an "nspluginscan"?

i have /etc/plugerrc. And i installed the java plugin for mozilla (earlier), and forgot to do nsplugin scan. I did that now and it just says "loading applet", it is either extremely slow or doesnt work.
where would the jre thing be installed?

Well, if you download the RPM and install it, it will be under /usr/java/jre1.3.1_03/bin, and I usually create a symbolic link in /usr/bin to the java executable:

ln -s /usr/java/jre1.3.1_03/bin/java /usr/bin/java

Sometimes I find I initially have to click on the applet to "wake it up" if it acts like it has loaded but doesn't display anything.

well... i prefer Mozilla anyway, but that button thing is pissing me off. I use Mozilla 94% of the time and just happened to use knowueror to see if The Abyss (http://abyss.servebeer.com) worked alright in it.
I dont have that jre thing, but maybe i will install it and try to get it to work (tomorrow). G'night.
