First of all, are you from the USA?
Second of all, do you connect to the internet using DHCP or PPPoE (PPPoE is with a username and password, and DHCP is when you don't do anything and you automatically get assigned an IP)?

No Ireland.
the only things i needed (under windows )was my Ip(provided)
Dns(provided)
alt dns (provided)
This is all i had to do under windows if it helps :
Go to control panel and network settings tcp/ip settings add my Ip address and subnet mask and then my Dns settings.
of course after i installed the modems driver.
