A few that I see most often:

Q) I have never used Linux, which distro is for me/the best?
A) ...

Q) Where can I get Linux?
A) If high speed connection then download from ..., if slow modem then order on line from cheap CD site or spend more and order direct from distro vendor and get manuals/support, or buy in store.

Q) Can I dual boot? How?
A) ...

Q) How come my modem doesn't work?
A) It's probably a winmodem. ...

Q) How can I access the files on my Windows partition?
A) FAT32? NTFS? /etc/fstab, mount

Q) I got a virus in Windows what can I do?
A) here's a dime, call Microsoft and have credit card handy...

Q) When I start Linux it boots to a text login, how do I get a graphical login?
A) set initdefault to 5 in /etc/inittab

Q) How do I make sure my Linux system is secure.
A) Set up firewall with iptables, turn off unused services, check for updated software from distro vendor, etc..

These are just some off the top of my head but I'm sure there are many more...

just a few - these I usually have to look up when asked.

- faq to setup Samba between *nix'es and *nix and m$ BFS's (bloody file systems)
- faq to setup and use ip tunneling/sharing modems (still can't get this right  :D )
- faq to mount/format new partitions/drives
- faq to secure directories using chmod and the sticky bits.
- faq to install/remove hardware eg. usb devices etc.
- faq to quick-quick change the ip-address (files and directories involved for different distros)

As I think of more - I'll create a list and post.

Regards
