Title: Need Linux desktop shot for school project.
Post by: Ctrl Alt Del 123 on 23 April 2002, 08:34
Well, for world history, I took on the "Personal Computer Revolution." While the origonal topic was more about Microsoft, I extended it to EVERYTHING, from the abicus to 2 guys tinkering and making an OS (UNIX) to good old MS.

What I need: A CLEAN (appropraite for high school) desktop shot of a fairly default desktop to show off on a poster board. You can include the start menu equivelent, the "About" section where it depics the OS.

Already have a Mac and Windows desktop.

Now that's a nice looking system! Only thing it needs is to have the desktop Icons lined up (Right-Click/Line up Icons). And to make the stay lined up, shorten the names. I wish there were a way to increase the amount of space on the left side of the desktop so that doesn't happen. Maybe you know of a way?

How do you get your menus and terminal to be translucent?  Does it only work on KDE 3.0?

there's a lot of linux desktop features you can't show in a screenshot though, like the multiple desktops that you can run the mouse from one to the next just by whipping it off the edge of the screen, and that (weird) thing where you can have a 1600 by 1400 pixel desktop on a smaller screen, but the screen scrolls around the desktop to follow the cursor.

I have some shots of my own desktop, but these guys have already obliged, and i haven't put them up on a site yet.

Thanks! Already had a few students ask about alternatives to Windows.
