whats with the fonts... is their a separation between MS/windows and linux fonts? Or can i use fonts that i downloaded in Linux no matter what?
-
It somewhat depends on your distrobution.
Generally you can use .ttf fonts in Linux without a problem. I do not know the command to install them though. But KDE does have a(although it is somewhat weird at times) font installer called Kfontinstall. And Mandrake Linux has Fontdrake.
If you don't have either of those tools, then you'll have to do it the hard way. I think www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) has a tutorial on fonts.

I just copied all the *.ttf fonts from the Windows font dir (%WINDIR%\FONTS) to my Linux TrueType directory and ran "mkfontdir". Then you have all your Windows fonts too (or use the KDE font installer in Control Center, see "Control Center"->"System"->"Font Installer" and browse to your /c/windows/fonts).
-
Same here. I copied the Windows *.ttf fonts and used kfontinstall to install them. I can say with certainty that they have improved KDE's appearance a bit.
-
I used kfontinstaller to easily install my tengwar-Quenya font (its a type of elvish)

It is too bad that ttf fonts render so badly in Linux due to the fact that most distributions turn off the bytecode interpreter in freetype2 to avoid lawsuits by Apple.
-
Well XPiss luser, now how would that affect one who has the source code to their OS? Get lost dumb ass!
-
Windows XP User #5225982375, you would know a lot about rendering since the only good thing windows is good for is playing games and watching porn; even then you get blue screens.
-
Lets see Xpiss loser....
My ttf fonts display very nicely in Linux(just as good as Windows), and I didn't have to do any tweaking.
Wow, looks like I've proven you wrong.

Thanks for admitting that porn and games are rendered best under Windows.
PS I never get blue screens, are you sure they exist?

I find this hard to believe. What distribution are you using?
-
you are insane... porn is best viewed under linux. And my fonts in RedHat 7.2 look better than they (or just as good) as they do in windows.
-
I use Mandrake. And My fonts are ecellent as I previously said.
And images seem to load faster and render better in Opera in Linux than IE or even Opera in Windows.
XP User, are you sure you have used linux in the past 4 years? It seems doubtful. Almost every Linux flaw you've mentioned doesn't apply anymore.

how do i set what font will be shown in netscape? (like when i write posts for other people to see?)

I still think my kde 3.0 looks better than ximian gnome. www.abysmal-plain.cjb.net (http://www.abysmal-plain.cjb.net)

Don't misquote me. I said its ONLY GOOD FOR; not "it's better at." Try reading what I say next time and not read what you want to read.
