Title: KDE doing my head in
Post by: flap on 28 July 2002, 23:47
I have previously had my Mandrake 8.2 box up and running with KDE 2 + 3 with no problem.

I recently reinstalled Mandrake and decided to not put KDE 2 on, but just install 3.0.2 on its own. Kdevelop requires kdelibs2.2.2 so I had to install that. Everything still ran ok but DCOPserver would crash if I su'd to root and tried to run any KDE app.

I removed KDE completely and put 3.0.2 back on without kdelibs2.2.2 and it all worked properly again, but now I can't use Kdevelop. I then tried installing KDE 2.2.2 completely and 3.0.2 on top of that, but still had the same problem. Everything installed from stable Mandrake 8.2 RPMs.

I have seen postings regarding variations of this problem on dozens of mailing list archives but noone seems to have a solution that works.

This post (http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-kant/2002-April/000211.html) describes the same problem I'm having and includes the error message.

Grateful for any suggestions.
