I downloaded the 3 Iso's but am somewhat reluctant to trying them out on my main system after my first debacle with Mandrake 8.2 ;)
I'll probably devote an old box to it.
Has anyone toyed with it yet?
Is it any good?
-
i have not, however it sounds very interesting... is it out officially from the mandrake site?
Ice9, your name suggests to me that you might already know of Bokononism (http://alumni.aitec.edu.au/~bwechner/Documents/Bokonon/Intro.html), is this the case? if not, how did you come by your login name?

I am half way throught he first ISO, not sure whether to test it though...
-
When I click on the url I get a "Not found" message, but the word Bokononism in it tells me that it's probably about a Cat's Cradle, init? ;)
Kurt Vonnegut has a wicked writing style and I like it a lot.
And now, to answer your first question, I downloaded the beta from Mandrake's download site, yes.

Mandrake is no more kde dependant than 90% of other distros. The thing is that the users like kde. If people preferred gnome, Im sure Mandrake would center around that. I myself consider both kde and gnome to bloated and resource heavy, and prefer blackbox and sawfish.

ahh, but never under estimate the power of windowmaker with kde and gnome librarys installed

The last time I tried Mandrake (version 8.1) it left a very fecal taste in my mouth. The fonts were way ugly (even when I installed the MS webfonts) the config tools were scattered and unintuative, KDE was slow as hell (at least twice as slow as Windows 2000) GNOME was functionless as always, and half the "games" included in the OS didn't even start.

Well, that should have offset the usual "salty" taste you are used to having in your mouth.
