Title: Microsoft Anti-Virus
Post by: Refalm on 17 January 2005, 16:36
After bringing us a crappy spyware scanner (http://www.microsuck.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000951), Microsoft now wants a virus of their own.

quote:
RedNova: Microsoft Corp. may introduce a program to protect computers from viruses as soon as next month, said Adam Holt, an analyst at J.P. Morgan, in a note to clients. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates speaks at the RSA Security Inc. conference in San Francisco on Feb. 15, and the company may unveil the product and other details then, Holt said. He expects the program to be on sale in the third quarter.

quote:
RedNova: The company plans to sell an anti-virus program, probably as a subscription service, to compete with Symantec Corp. and McAfee Inc., the Nos. 1 and 2 providers of such software.

Michael Hayden and William Black were unavailable for comment regarding this new, potentially critical security threaet.

EDIT: For those not from around here, those would be the administrators of the National Security Agency (read: SigInt).

Microsoft have really got it sorted, they actually get more money for making their OS more insecure - it's just amazing!

Now they can help the virus writers by releasing the details of the latest exploits on their website, and in return they write more viruses and make even more money

All I can say is that I trust this MAVerick program about as far as I can throw it.  If you're on Windows and not AT LEAST using a free version of  BitDefender (http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/downloads.php?menu_id=21), which is every bit as good as McAfee or Norton as long as you keep it updated and perform a full system scan at least once a week, you  should just give me your computer so that I can make it operable again.  Just remember, you're not getting it back.   (http://tongue.gif)
