Title: Scanner no work...

I have a Microtek ScanMaker 4850 and I would like to get it to work with Mandrake 8.2.  I have no idea how to get this thing working.  HardDrake doesn't see it but the "USB View" does.  How can I use this scanner?  I need it for scanning and importing pics into Star Office/Open Office Docs for a tech manual that I am revising so I can quit using Windows!  :D

Okay welcome to hell.

First this thread (http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000356). The last post has a couple of very useful links.

however here  (http://www.mostang.com/sane/sane-mfgs.html#MICROTEK)it shows quite clearly that your scanner is not one of those supported.
