I want to make a network link sort of like there is in Windows on the desktop of my brand new SuSE Linux 8.1 KDE installation. I find that typing smb://workgroup does not work in either KDE or Gnome as it did before and I am stumped. The only way i've found to access windows shares is by typing mount -t smbfs //server/share /mnt/share and that is not good for browsing with. Yes I have set the samba windows shares setting in the KDE control center.

go into the kde control center and enalbe the lisa and relisa deamons, that should fix it for you. just make sure to configure them too
-
would you be so kind as to elaborate a little, I could not find anything about lisa and relisa in the KDE Control Center. and I know I would be lost when it came to configure them.
-
i also would like some more elaboration on starting lisa and browsing my network through kde

Linneighbourhood (http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/) should do the trick methinks, see if you like it.
