Hi Folks, hi free people !
Ever experienced divxPlayer (can be grabbed here http://www.divx.com/divx/linux/) (http://www.divx.com/divx/linux/)) promptly closing right after having been launched ?
It then gives you an error message like this one :
/usr/local/bin/divxPlayer: line 6: 6011 Segmentation fault /usr/local/bin/divxPlayer.bin $@
One of the many different ways to settle this issue :
1) go to this directory /home/user_dir/.divxPlayer
2) delete the file DivXPlayer.dbf
3) relaunch the divxPlayer application --> it works !
... any other solution is welcome !

I'm sure somebody here can help.
But.... I'd rather recommend to you mplayer. (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/)

Hi MeMbR@X ;)
Great post, thanks, but it isn't entirely correct.
divxPlayer isn't listed for dowload anymore, only the divx codec.
You're just lucky that I had downloaded it before and mailed it to you :D
Welcome here btw.

If you are using RedHat there is an easy way to get MPlayer (and other things) installed. It's apt-get and synaptic package managers for RedHat. Here are instructions on how to set it up, and even uses MPlayer as the example program to install:

He already uses synaptic void main ;)
In fact, I'm on irc with him atm talking about him not being able to start gmplayer. :(

Hi void Main,
indeed I already use Synaptic.
When trying to get the packages it connects and then skips some packages with as error msg : Cannot Fetch Package etc etc.
I guess I'd better wait the latest version which is 0.90.10 being compiled and so available.
CSV file are available only since a few hours, not yet compiled.
Greeetz,

...but if you want to get the divx player working for the moment:
delete the file (DivXPlayer.dbf) as you mentioned, run the player again, and go into options. Disable the splash screen and the "Check for new versions at startup" option.

Hi flap !
just did what you advised me and ... yeehaaaa, it really works as it should have worked since the beginning.
Thank you very much pal !

Greeetz,
Hmmmm, are you behind a proxy? That is do you have to enter proxy settings in your browser before you can browse the net? Synaptic not downloading MPlayer would not be a problem with MPlayer. What Linux distro and version are you running?
