Title: more install problems
Post by: hnugz on 18 June 2002, 04:29
Before when I tried to install linux (any version) I got a kernel panic error and I couldn't install.  I fixed this with the install line "linux mem=256m expert".  Now when trying to install red hat 7.3 I get the same type of error message even with that line.  These are the two last lines I get:

"isofs_read_super:bread failed, dev=09:00, iso_blknunm=16, block=32"

and

"kernel panic:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on 09:00"

Any suggestions?

Looks like a bad CD, CD-ROM Drive, Cable, or CD-ROM is jumpered incorrectly to me.. Have you tried sticking a different drive in the machine and trying it?

Hmm someone else mentioned the cd-rom and checking that.  I have the two hard drives on IDE-1 and the cd-rom as primary on IDE-2.  I don't know if this makes a difference either but the IDE cable on the cd-rom is one of those slower ones, the cheap kind.
