i just want a small irc server that me and my friends can use instead of talking through aim, but how do i do this in linux? in the redhat8 install, there were many different servers, but not irc...

I just did a google search for "irc server daemon" and this is the first link that popped up:

I suggest you run the same search and see what you can find.

Also, keep in mind your ISP may not allow hosting IRC servers, no matter how small. Better check out your ISPs plicy.
