I've bought an old server and would really like to put Red Hat Linux 7.2 on it, but the video card has a hard time dealing with the installer (I've also done a text install) and gnome gui's.
Here are some specs:
Compaq Prosignia 200
RAM: 48M
Processor: Pentium 166
Vid card: Cirrus Logic 5436 PCI
Monitor: DayTek DT-1439 (maybe this has something to do with it)
Any suggestions for getting the gui's to display correctly would be great.
btw: Been reading these forums for a while, if anybody would know something it would be you guys (http://smile.gif)

a server?
if you're going to use it as a server ... why use a GUI?
-
run "setup" from the command-line and choose "X configuration" and see if you can find the monitor and video card in there.
If not go search for the linux driver for it on www.google.ca/linux (http://www.google.ca/linux)

I will be watching this thread closely. I just got a Compaq Proliant 1500 (dual 166) and will be installing a Linux OS on it. Hopefully, the answers to your post can help me too. (Maybe solve some things on the front end before they become issues.)
Thanks for posting this question.
