What kind of hardware? All of my hardware worked fine...
If you don't like it, you can delete the partition, reformat it, and use it for Windows.
Put the bootloader in the MBR though...
-
defiantly give us a list of hardware. i know what to sound in joy over, and cringe with unmentionable horror at. and so do a lot of people on these boards
-
You could just try a LiveCd Linux, like Knoppix, that will give you a general idea of what works, and what doesn't. Usually it's the printer, in worst cases, your modem, or other internet devices do not work, but like I said, you just take the cd out and reboot... (http://smile.gif)

Well, one bit of hardware i am worried about is my Belkin USB Videobus 2.
Also my Canon BJC-6000 which is connected using a Canon Parallel to USB adaptor.
-
Printer looks OK...especially if you are using Mandrake.
The Belkin thingy is something to be concerned about it appears. Void main? Any ideas?
-
I am planning to use RedHat 8.
is that a concern?
-
Red Hat is one of the most compatible OSes...it's just that Video Capture thing that I don't know about.
-
I can give some more info on it, if wanted.
just ask about wat info and i'll give it to u
-
The only real way to find out if your Videobus thingy works or not is to just plug it in and try it out. What is it, exactly, like a webcam, or a professional level device?
-
It's a USB video capture thing. Not exactly "professional"
-
i would sugest that u download the suse live eval 8.1. It is a great way to get started with linux and
has a very good amount of hardware support with it. It is based on KDE though while Red Hat is more based on Gnome. The only real problem with it is the lack of software but that is b/c of it is only one cd. Yo dont have all the Gnome software.
-
Buzza I had Red Hat 7.2 7.3 and 8.0 run on Hardware that support only Windows (My motherboard with an on board NIC card and Sound Card).
Trust me, chances are it works, unless you have some realy obsecure Hardware in your system that nobody ever used. Besides you can do a search on the Distro's web site you want to install, and see the details in there.
All major Distros have a list of Supported HW on their Web Site.
As for deleting your Linux partition if you dont like it, YES, you can Delete the Linux Partition. You just need to be carefull not to fuck up anything in there.
If you are a total noob with Linux, go with a popular Distro 1st. Like RedHat 8.0 or the latest Mandrake or Suse.

Thanx alot bazoukas!
You have been a real help.
Also thanx to the rest of you.
Thanx.

i know my belkin mouse works in redhat... same company so maybe it'll work.

ITM
-
WTF IS ITM!?!
Why do you keep bumping posts?!
-
It means "ignore this message". I'll change it to "ignore". It's the only way to get the threads back on the main Linux page. They were accidentally removed by one of the mods. I won't mention his name but his initials are "X11".
-
Is there any way I can help?

1) OK
2) Probably. Is it in some sort of database form? Yes...probably.
-
You can pick a range of threads by changing the "t=001149" in your URL to "t=001125" and work your way up (25, 26, 27, etc) until you catch me working my way down. I am afraid if we don't do this the threads will all be deleted during nightly database purging. I don't know how this forum is set up so maybe what we don't need to do any more. At least we will have kept all of the most recent threads.
-
Yes, it would be very easy to use a script, except for the flood control thing (don't want to give anyone any ideas).

Try this:
RTFM! Right from Infopop's manual

Purging? That sucks.
Like I said I'll help if needed, but X11 is a mod, so he should try the restore thing above.

wont work because we mods can only change the text above forums and purge threads (http://smile.gif)
