Well, Im assuming that hes a newbie if he cant figure out how to install kde3, so it probably wouldnt be a good idea for him to be using the beta of mandrake. Im sure it does have some bug fixes for problems in 8.2, but it probably still has its own beta level bugs, and I hesitate before reccommending it to anyone new for a stable setup.

RedHat 7.3 comes with KDE 3.0. It's not beta and I've been running it on several machines for a couple of months now without any trouble at all.

It was actually very east :D ftp.kde.com (i think) has a directory for mandrake. download those. and then just fill the dependices with www.rpmfind.net (http://www.rpmfind.net)

That's exactly how I did it before I upgraded to RedHat 7.3 that comes with it. Good suggestion.
