i was jacking with kernel compiling and fooked it all up (mandrake 8.2)
so i decided to just go for a complete reinstall
now my net card (ne2000 compatible) will not work. it had worked before and works under winblows now.
i need it for internet, everything else is tip-top.
it (and i) cant seem to find a an open io address range.
when i had installed mandrake before (and the nic worked) there had been another video card and a second nic... i am going to try that setup now and just reinstall
thoughts? what info u want?
thx

Does "/sbin/ifconfig" show an "eth0"? If not, the kernel module is not loaded for your Ethernet card. You can try and load an ne2000 driver manually by using "modprobe" command:
# modprobe ne
or
# modproble ne2k-pci
depending on your network card. You can also pass parameters to the driver on that command line. Do you see your driver listed in the output from "/sbin/lsmod"? Does Mandrake use "kudzu" to detect your hardware? If so, it should have detected your ethernet card and put any necessary module info in /etc/modules.conf. You might try running kudzu manually "/usr/sbin/kudzu".
The important thing is you get an "eth0" in the output of "/sbin/ifconfig". If you get that, then it's just a matter of properly configuring TCP/IP.

hehehehehehehhehehehehehehehehehh
putting the video card and the other nic in worked
wierd... it had always worked before (with other distros)... now to work on the dual heads (thats where i screwed up the kernel before)
hey thanks for the assist man... just a wierd pnp or mb issue

You shouldn't have to mess with the kernel for dual heads. I've set up a few dual head configurations and it is a function of X not the kernel. Or is there something wacky in your case? What make/model of video card(s) are you running?

it is a worthless video card... verrrrrry generic (8mb) but with tv out.
i think it will work ok now... but it is impossible under winblows... big crash :D
more of an academic endeavour than a necessity, and it works but not with opengl... i need a geforce 4, 2 diamond vipers and another 3 tvs and i will set up a nice 5 monitor display:
..................tv tv
monitor....tv tv
(if that did not line up right, that was one monitor on the left, a space, and a 2x2 stack of tv's on the right)
will be nice, particularly for movies (1280 x 960) .. about 4 feet square
thanks
