Post by: AmericanBastard on 19 September 2003, 08:51
OK...been trying to do the SuSe Linux off FTP thing and realized I've become such a Winblowz trooper that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

Can someone help me out with an idiot (namely me) walk-through of what the fersluggin ell I should be doing here... AND I MEAN IDIOT PROOF...

Start from grabbing a sandwich and a soda and walking to the computer, turning it on with a win2k o/s and finish with...TADA You're now running Linux!!!

If I'm a pain in the arse then soz..but I gotta make the change!!!!

I went through the whole SuSe thing last week and it went famously.  If you buy the package distro, with the cds and the manual and the cool blue sticker, it tells you what all to do.  And the box was only US$30 (discounted to US$20 at Best Buy).

If you've got Windows 2000, though, you might run into some serious problems.  Find out ASAFP if your machine has an NTFS partition, or a FAT32 partition.  If it's NTFS, you're going to need a lot more than a sandwich and a soda.  You're going to have to reinstall windows first.

which would include repartitioning to a FAT 32 file structure!!!

I had the oportunity to pick it up here in Korea at the PX for $35.00 (US) with all o that stuff too...missed out in a period of 2 days, the O/S's they had stocked for 3 months had magically been sold on what apparently can only be described as an uncontrolable and insane urge on the part of every military member in Seoul to purchase all of the operating systems the day prior to my decision to buy it...Imagine the odds!!! otherwise I deffinately wouldn't be trying the d/l thing.
