im new to this site and im fucking sick of microsoft and i want to learn linux......can anyone help with learning linux for free...or some what free

Just pop in an install Cd, install a dual boot, and screw around trying to get it set up like you prefer. Badda bing badda boom.  (http://smile.gif)

Fett's right.  I'm still very much a n00b to Linux but what I do know, I leanred from reading online and just screwing around with Linux.

I found Knoppix to be quite good as a trial run.  Boots and runs off CD so you can see what it's all about - the hard drive install is bad though, so for that Mandrake.  ;)

There are thousands of quality books out there for Linux. I do however wholeheartidly recommend O'Reily's books.

The best way to learn Linux though is to install it on an old machine of yours and start fiddling with it. You can also set up a dual boot system very easily.   ;)

Yeah, installing it and messing around seeing what you can do with it is probably the best, and most fun way to learn Linux.  A book wouldn't hurt, but any distro comes with documentation, and there are help sites all across the web.  Thats all free.  Make sure to get an easy Distro.

look for the bible books

linux bible , redhat bible etc.  big book usually comes with a couple of instal CDs

"Linux Complete" is good.  It's basically a printed out version of a few Howtos and Man pages.  Nice to have them in a big book.  Also for a very good beginners introduction the Australian Personal Computer Magazines Linux pocketbooks are fantastic.  But really your best documentation in the end is online - the linux documentation project is a good place to start.  ;)

The Holy Bible is pretty good, too. I like how they covered VI and Moses.
