Title: Microsoft's response to recent wave of migration to Linux
Post by: Commander on 29 October 2003, 07:33
people who migrate to linux usually do it becuase they have finally found something better and that they don't wanna use windows, not go right back to windows again so they have to waste another 100 grand on just licencing the fucking os.

IMO, that;s the stupidest ad i've seen comming from dell

I see the symbolism in that add

The appearance of a rubiks cube indicates the intricacy and near impossibility to master anythin M$ produces...It also represents the greedy's aility to overcomplicate things which should be easy to the lowest level user

You don't have permission to access /microsuck/content/MSDellUnix.jpg on this server.

WTF is up with that shit? I can't view any of the images on that server as a matter of fact.

What do you mean? I had to post that image on the microsuck image hoster cause it was originally a flash animation, and I couldn't link to it.

I'm accessing it through the microsuck.com hostname. Should I be using fuckmicrosoft.com?

No, that should work. Are you saying the image doesn't display when you're viewing this page we're posting on now? And the hostname in the url is forum.microsuck.com? I was thinking it could have been ecsyle's .htaccess file, but that allows hotlinking from forum.microsuck.com pages.

This is indeed odd. I have allowed both the fuckmicrosoft and microsuck domains access to the serevr. I see no reason why you cant see the images on the forums. If anyone has any ideas, id like to resolve this issue.

Nope, I can't see the image here(I get a red X) and when I try to view any of the images in the escyle.com/microsuck/content directory from the escyle.com domain I get that forbidden error.

Surely he doesn't have my IP blocked from viewing the images uploaded there. I'm not one of those cumguzzlers who abused free hosting services. I've always used my own hosting space for images and stuff.

My only guess is that Viper's coming in through forums.microsuck.com (with an 's'), which wouldn't work the way you have it.

Change that line to

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://forum(s)?\.microsuck\.com/.*$ [NC]

Also, if you want to be able to just copy and paste the url and have it load (i.e. so no referer will be set) you need to add

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$

Nope, it still isn't working for me man. It doesn't matter what browser I use. I come here through forum.microsuck.com .

I'm about to boot to Linux and see if I get the problem in Linux as well.

Ok, I can see the image in Linux. I can view all of the images in the content directory of your hosting space in Linux.

I bet that I need to enable some of the XP services that I currently have disabled. The firewall I use in Windows isn't the issue because I get the problem even with it disabled.

I don't see why it would be that. What browser are you using? I'd try a different one and see if it makes a difference.

In XP I tried IE 6, Mozilla 1.5, Firebird, Opera and MyIE2. None of them worked. I think that my problem is related to one of the many services that I have disabled.

In Linux it works fine with Mozilla, Konquerer, Firebird and Galeon. I didn't try any other Linux browsers because I am convinced that I need to mess around with the services in Windows and figure out which one that I disabled needs to be enabled.

(Edit)Sorry for the hassle flap and escyle. ;(

At work right now, i am on win2k using IE to browse. It works fine. YOu must something disabled, or your internet security settings are too high.

Well I have the problem solved in Windows. I had it setup to where information about visited sites could not be sent from any browser. Apparently that breaks compatibility with your hosting probably because you have it setup to where images can only be viewed from forum.microsuck.com, artsformdesign.com and escyle.com. When my browser doesn't send the information about where I am at it obviously isn't going to let me view the image because it thinks I am viewing it from another place that isn't on that list.

You were right escyle, I do have my security pumped up too high.

Nothing wrong with being secure. Too bad there isnt a way to keep the settings high, while still being able to view the images.
