l00zer if you plan on using your OS for video games i would stick with windows

when it comes to graphics linux gets the small straw

Just don't expect your programs to crash that often and don't expect *NIX to crash at all.  :D

I would recommend buying a Playstation. It has kick ass games, and hell, it can even run linux  (http://smile.gif) )))))

the change is FPS depends on the program and your video card really..

if you are using a Nvidia graphics card, you will not see any loss in FPS
if you are playing a game through Wine, you will see a loss in FPS
if you are playing a game which has been ported over to linux and you play it from an X windows (command from console is 'xinit') you will see substantial increase in FPS

if you just plan to play games, stay on Windows.

Thanks Tux. Yeah, went back to the farm over the long weekend so I haven't been able to post. And I picked up a nasty case of the flu while I was there. The normal 5 hour drive back took me 8 hours last night because I had to stop and lose my lunch every 50 miles. It was by far the most unpleasant trip of my life!

In fact if you plan to stick with the Quake series you could switch to Linux, if not follow Chooco's advice and stick with Win for gaming.
I run Quake III in Win2K and linux, it feels about the same BUT ..........
If I run a timedemo with demo four I get 217 frames/second in Win2K and 243 in Linux, with the same version of NVidia drivers for my Geforce 3 Ti200.
