i have decided to move away from Microsoft and look into a alternate os. Is there any that can run windows games and that i can get compatible drivers with my hardware? I am a ch00b when it comes to other os's

to run windows games, u need winex, and it costs money.  im not sure about the drivers, what hardware do u have?

Probably a Mac would be your best bet. You could try redhat 9 with wine. Most people will probably tell you to try mandrake, I'm not a big fan of it though.

And topic has already been discussed, did you search before you posted?

You dont need winex. Just wine works fine. Assuming you have nvidia and the accelerated graphics drivers for linux... it's fine. I hate directx anyways, use opengl. Isn't that all that winex does? add better directx support?

20gb ibm ata 100 7200 rpm hdd

56x unknown manufacturer cd-rom

ATI All in wonder Radeon 7500 AGP GPU

Creative Sound Blaster Live PLatinum

Modem...floppy...etc

you should be fine with redhat 9 and wine

Although I'd recommend simply gaming for games that are designed for linux.

the only problem is a lot of older games use direct x...not open gl

If you can afford it, get a Mac, if not, well then put Mandrake or Redhat then get Wine.

If he wants to do gaming hes prolly stuck with windows.  He needs to do a lot of research on what games are compatible with what before he goes and searches for an OS.
