GTK-Gnutella Might be the best, but you should also look inot freenet if you get a chance.

I take the freenet suggestion back. If you want to do Anonymous filesharing, use gnunet. GTK-Gnutella is the best, but if you use Gnunet, you have no chance of being caught by the RIAA or anyone else. The big problem with Gnunet right now though is that not many people use it and therefore, not much is yet available. But in time, it will grow into a powerful and safe to use tool.

what about limewire?

Dmitry Sklyarov and Jon Johansen thought that way also. The former landed himself in jail for a while, and the latter was tried by the courts in his own nation. Why? For breaking the DMCA, even though they were not in America when they did it. In the end, both of them won in court (Jon is going to get retried though), but it shows you that the RIAA is willing to push American draconian copyright laws on every nation in the world.
Another benefit of using Gnunet is that people in countries with totalitarian governments can access your shared fils under their gov.'s nose.

They've threatened a few Brisbane ISP's too, along the lines of "stop X user with Y ip at this time from using your service or we will." They have actually given hints that they think denial of service / viral attacks against a user given "reasonable suspicion" of copyright breach is justifiable.
-
haven't they perhaps confused the terms "justifiable" and "pointless"?

Limewire is decent and has made quite a bit of improvement over its nearly useless previous versions. However, it requires the java virtual machine to run, and I find that unless you have a fast computer, its dog slow.
