Called the Sasser worm. Exploits some flaw in lsass.exe. Acts like Blaster. \o/

I even saw this on TV news.
It surprises me that the TV news always says that all computers will be infected and that you need an anti-virus scanner to avoid it.

I was too tired to read the entire article for details, but apparently the bug that this new worm expoits was created by the April Microsoft Monthly Patches.

It's another one of THOSE? (http://redface.gif) Just more proof that Windows is forever crippled until they rewrite the whole damn thing. The current system has everything intertwined with everything else.

Well, that is not really surprising if you have the cream of your coders work on useless shit like
this (http://apnews.excite.com/article/20040503/D82B2R1O0.html).
quote:
Microsoft Corp. is unveiling copyright protection software to allow rented songs or movies to be used on portable players, cellular phones and other devices.
The company's latest "digital rights management" software, code-named Janus, was released Monday. It will give songs and videos purchased through subscription services a sort of digital expiration date that works even when the data is transferred from a computer. The technology also protects the content against piracy.
The goal is to make it easier for companies who want customers to rent songs or videos, rather than own them, to also let those users play back the content on portable players.
*Renting* music? You *are* shitting me, aren't you?

yeah, the only holes in my system are going to be closed soon. thank god for selinux and trustedbsd. lazyness is my systems only weakness. still gotta get my barcode authentication working. (yes, i can do that, just have to make the cards and scan them into passwd) so if you managed to get into my system im probably unconcious with a nice gash in my head.

Probably nothing. Blaster and Sasser exploit parts of Windoze's networking services, which (obviously) don't run in Linux.

I have worms in my digestive tract, they don't turn me into a spam relay though.

I guess only WINE and maybe /mnt/vfat will be infected.
Oh, and don't run a casual program under root (http://tongue.gif)

Well, it looks like the creator of the Sassor worm has been caught! (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1503&ncid=1503&e=1&u=/afp/20040508/ts_afp/internet_virus_germany_confess_040508152033) It was an 18 year old German kid.
Isn't it just amazing how an 18 year old kid can bring down the world's primary operating system made by the world's most richest and powerful software company? Microsoft should hire this kid...at least HIS programs work.
